Bonser activated, Papelbon to bereavement list

The Red Sox have activated 28-year-old right-hander Boof Bonser from the disabled list and placed closer Jonathan Papelbon on the bereavement list.

Bonser, originally acquired from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later on December 10th, compiled a 6.34 ERA in eight starts and one relief appearance while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket. In parts of three major league seasons with the Twins, Bonser posted a 5.12 ERA in 96 games (60 starts), allowing greater than a hit per inning and having a 2:1 K:BB ratio. He will serve as a member of the Boston bullpen.

Papelbon must miss at least three games while on the bereavement list and a corresponding roster move will need to be made upon his return.
