Herold to Portland, Kehrt back to Salem

After starting the second game of Portland's doubleheader yesterday, Jeremy Kehrt was sent back to Salem and replaced by Mitch Herold, who saw his first Double-A action Sunday in a win against Portland. Kehrt went 5.0 innings yesterday, cruising until allowing a three-run home run in the fifth inning to take the loss.

In 11 appearances with Salem before his promotion, Herold shut down hitters in the Carolina League. Opponents hit just .171 off the lefty, who fanned 17 in 25.2 innings and posted a 0.62 WHIP. His 1.05 ERA was third lowest in the system. He allowed runs in just two of his appearances, and during a particularly dominant stretch, Herold held opponents without a run for 14.2 innings.

Herold appeared in 33 games for Low-A Greenville in 2009, posting a 1.92 ERA with 71 strikeouts in 65.2 innings. Herold was drafted by the Red Sox out of Central Florida in the 16th round of the 2008 draft.
