Embree chooses to remain with Pawtucket

Alan Embree has decided to remain with Triple-A Pawtucket past his April 15 opt-out date in hopes of either landing a spot in the Boston bullpen or showing his major league readiness to scouts from other clubs. Embree has made 4 appearances for the PawSox thus far, three consisting of one shutout inning. His lone bump in the road was one forgettable appearance in which he allowed 3 runs on a hit and 4 walks in one-third of an inning. Embree's main competition for the final bullpen spot during spring training, Scott Schoeneweis, currently holds a 7.36 ERA with 6:0 K:BB ratio in 3.2 innings pitched over 4 appearances. He has been used mostly in middle relief, appearing only once in a close game and getting charged with the tying run in that instance, on April 7 against the New York Yankees.
