Pitcher of the Month, August: Kyle Weiland
While his 1-1 record wouldn't indicate it, Lowell LHP Kyle Weiland hold opposing offenses in check in August, allowing just four runs, none of them earned, on 11 hits for a .139 BAA over 22 innings pitched in five starts, striking out 26 batters while walking only four, and in recognition of his achievement has been named SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month of August. Weiland, 21, was a third round pick out of Notre Dame in this June's draft and owns a 3-3 record in 15 games (10 starts) with the Spinners, allowing 10 earned runs on 36 hits (.166 BAA) for an 1.50 ERA, striking out 68 and walking 10. He is currently the #22 ranked prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
