Reddick drives in 4 in Sea Dogs comeback win


8/16 Cup of Coffee: Friday's action saw Pawtucket edged Syracuse 5-4 despite being outhit 12-7. Bartolo Colon threw 1 inning and did not allow a run on 2 hits. Jose Vaquedano (3-1) went 4 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Eric Hull threw 2.1 frames allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Hunter Jones pitched the final 1.2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits. Jeff Natale went 2 for 4 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Joe Thurston went 2 for 4 with a home run.

Portland scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to earn a come from behind 8-7 win over Harrisburg. Ryne Lawson threw 6 innings and did not allow a run on 2 hits and 3 BB. He had 2 Ks. Richie Lentz went 1.2 frames and was charged with 3 runs although not allowing a hit. He walked 3 and fanned 5. Carlos Vasquez did not retire a hitter and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and a BB. Mike James fanned the only batter he faced. Daniel Bard (3-1) blew the save but picked up the win going 1 inning and allowing 2 runs on 0 hits and 2 BB. He fanned 2. Mickey Hall went 2 for 4 with a home run. Zach Daeges went 2 for 5. Lars Anderson went 4 for 4 and scored 2 runs. Josh Reddick went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI.

Rancho Cucamonga defeated Lancaster 7-5. Blake Maxwell (4-7) went 5.1 frames allowing 7 runs on 8 hits and 2 BB. Josh Papelbon threw 2.2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit. He struck out 2. Ryan Kalish went 3 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI. Luis Segovia went 2 for 4 and scored a run.

West Virginia downed Greenville 5-1. Brock Huntzinger went 5 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Ryne Miller (1-3) went 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. He had 3 Ks. Javier Garcia pitched the final inning and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits. Carlos Fernandez-Oliva went 2 for 4 and scored a run.

Lowell edged Aberdeen 2-1. Hunter Strickland threw 5 scoreless innings giving up 2 hits and a BB. He had 7 Ks. Dennis Neuman (2-0) went 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. He had 1 K. Mitch Herold threw 1 clean frame as did Seth Garrison who also had a K. Darren Blocker went 2 for 2 with a RBI.

In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox split a doubleheader with the Pirates. They took the first game 1-0 despite having only 1 hit. Eammon Portice threw 2 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits. Manuel Jimenez threw 4 scoreless, hitless innings. He allowed 1 BB and had 5 Ks. Dustin Mercadante threw a clean final frame. The Pirates took the second game 7-1. Ryan Pressly (1-4) threw 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 BB. He had 3 Ks. Jennel Hudson went 1.1 frames giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Mike Tomoleoni threw 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings. He walked 2. The Sox managed only 3 hits in this game spread out amongst 3 different players.

The game between the Red Sox and the Blue Jays in the Dominican was rained out.
