Pawtucket & Lowell send Fenway fans home happy
8/10 Cup of Coffee: The Futures at Fenway Day ended as well as it possibly could with both Sox minor league teams scoring victories. Pawtucket defeated Charlotte 5-2 behind the stellar start of David Pauley. (13-4) He went 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. He gave up 2 BB while fanning 4. Hunter Jones threw an inning of scoreless reief allowing 1 hit. Chris Smith pitched a scoreless 9th giving up 1 hit. Joe Thurston went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Keith Ginter went 2 for 3.
In the other game played at Fenway, Lowell edged Hudson Valley 4-3 in 12 innings. Stolmy Pimentel went 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Stephen Fife threw 3 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and a BB. He had 1 K. Seth Garrison threw 1 inning allowing 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. Mitch Herold threw 2 scoreless innings giving up 2 BB. He had 1 K. Dennis Neuman (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning fanning 1 hitter. Rafael Cabreja went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Mitch Dening went 3 for 6 with a run scored and a RBI. Will Middlebrooks went 3 for 6 with 3 RBI including the walk off game winning single in the 12th inning.
Portland lost both games of their doubleheader to Connecticut by scores of 14-6 and 5-4. In the first contest, Dustin Richardson (6-7) went 2 innings allowing 9 runs on 10 hits. He also gave up 2 BB. TJ Large threw 3.2 frames allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and a BB. Carlos Vasquez retired the only batter he faced. Josh Reddick went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Iggy Suarez went 2 for 2 with a run scored. In the second game, Kyle Jackson threw 4.2 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Richie Lentz pitched 1.1 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit, a home run. He had 3 Ks. Lars Anderson went 2 for 3 in the game with 4 RBI.
Rancho Cucamonga downed Lancaster 7-2. Chris Province (5-3) threw 1.2 frames allowing 7 runs on 10 hits. He had 3 Ks. Josh Papelbon went 5.1 scoreless frames allowing 2 hits. Craig Molldrem threw 2 scoreless hitless frames recording 2 Ks. Luis Exposito went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
Kannapolis blanked Greenville 5-0. Chad Povich (8-5) threw 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 3 hits and 3 BB. He had 5 Ks. Kyle Foster went 3 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. The Drive offense managed only 3 hits in the game with no player having more than 1.
In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox game vs the Reds was postponed.
In the Dominican, the Red Sox downed the Blue Jays 8-7. Rafael Espinoza and Juan Bonifacio each went 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
