Britton leads Spinners to victory


8/4 Cup of Coffee: On Sunday the PawSox lost to the Scranton Yankees, 5-2. Charlie Zink took the loss, allowing 3 runs in 5 innings. Joe Thurston had two hits and Gil Velazquez homered in the defeat.

Portland's doubleheader against Trenton was cancelled due to unsafe playing conditions caused by the heavy Maine rain. The games will not be made up.

In California League action, Lancaster lost to Rancho Cucamonga, 8-4. Chris Jones took his eight loss, giving up 7 runs on 10 hits over 5 innings. On the offensive side, Yamaico Navarro continued hios torrid pace, racking up 3 hits. Daniel Nava had 2 hits and 2 RBI.

In Greenville, Chad Povich lost to Charleston, who defeated the Drive by a score of 9-3. Povich was batted around for 7 runs over 5 innings. Six Greenville players had multi hit games: David Mailman went 3/4 with a double; Carlos Fernandez, Ryan Kalish, Jered Stanley, and Michael Almanzar each went 2/5; and Pete Gilardo went 2/4 with a double.

The Spinners were the only affiliate to take home a win on Sunday, downing Vermont 7-1. Drake Britton led the way with 5 shutout innings, strking out 5 Lake Monsters in the process. For the offense, Mitch Dening went 2/4 with a triple and Ryan Dent hit his sixth home run of the season, batting in 3 runs during the game.
Player of the Day: Britton, who earned his first pro win over five hitless and scoreless innings, striking out 5 and walking 1.
