Aardsma activated, Smith optioned
The Red Sox have activated RHP David Aardsma from the disabled list (leg) and have returned RHP Chris Smith to Pawtucket. Recalled to Boston August 1, Smith worked prefect innings against Oakland Aug. 2 and at Kansas City Aug. 5, striking out two and one opposing batters in respective appearances. On the season with the Red Sox Smith is 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched over five appearances, striking out seven and walking four. Aardsma had been on a rehab assignment with Pawtucket, working two shut out innings over two appearances, yielding no hits and striking out and walking two batters each.
