Lugo to DL with quad, Lowrie recalled
The Red Sox have placed SS Julio Lugo on the disabled list with a strained left quad and have recalled SS Jed Lowrie from Pawtucket. Lugo injured the leg running out a grounder last night against Baltimore. According to Terry Francona, Lowrie will, at least initially, split time at short with INF Alex Cora. Lowrie was in the line up this afternoon against Baltimore, Cora is scheduled to start tomorrow. This year with Boston Lowrie is .310/.340/.476 (817 OPS) in six games and is .268/.359/.434 (.793 OPS) in 198 ABs over 53 games, with five home runs, 14 doubles and two triples. Lugo is expected to miss four to six weeks.
