6th rounder Lavarnway gets $325k
The Red Sox have officially signed their sixth-round pick C Ryan Lavarnway out of Yale for $325k according Jim Callis of Baseball America. Lavarnway, 20, features plus power at the plate as well as outstanding plate discipline and makes good contact (he led the NCAA in batting average in 2007). He still still raw behind the plate, having been converted to catcher at Yale after playing in the outfield in high school. He had one year eligibility remaining.
