Sox take Stephen Fife 85th overall
The Boston Red Sox have selected RHP Stephen Fife out of the University of Utah 85th overall in the 2008 Draft. Fife is a 6'3 210 lbs starting pitcher who went 7-5 with a 3.52 ERA and 78 strikeouts vs. 29 walks in 92 innings this season. He throws a sinking fastball that has jumped in velocity as the season has went along touching 94 MPH while working 88-92 MPH. Fife also throws a curveball and slider which can be plus pitches, but will need some refinement to become consistent. Showing good command with his stuff, Fife has an easy fluid delivery and works deep into games. Fife will most likely begin his professional career with the Lowell Spinners after signing with the Sox.
