Sox take Kyle Weiland in 3rd Round

The Boston Red Sox have selected RHP Kyle Weiland from the University of Notre Dame in the 3rd Round (108) of the 2008 Draft. The 6'4'' 190 lbs closer finished the season with a 2-2 5.04 ERA along with 2 saves in 30 innings. Weiland throws a fastball that can reach 95 MPH, a hard slider, and a good change-up. With his mix of pitches there has been talk of him beginning his career as a starter, but will have to rework his delivery some in this role. Doesn't seem ideal to move into s starter's role once he starts professional baseball. Once signed, he should start in Lowell.
