Sox tab Derrick Gibson with 77th pick
The Boston Red Sox have selected SS Derrick Gibson with the 77th pick in the 2008 Draft. Gibson, a right handed hitter out of Seaford HS (DE), is a very athletic player and also pitches for Seaford HS. Gibson hit .655 with 5 home runs, 25 RBI, and 13 SB's while going 7-0 in the regular season on the mound. Scouts see the 6'0 170 lbs Gibson as a middle infielder and gifted athletically enough to play CF Considered raw, but with excellent tools and potential, Gibson has committed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this coming Fall. Should the Sox sign Gibson, look for him to start in the GCL.
