In the fifth round the Red Sox selected New England product OF Ryan Westmoreland out of Portsmouth (RI) HS with the 172nd pick. Westmorland, 6' 2" and 185 lbs., draws Rocco Baldelli comparisons and projects as a potential five tool center fielder. He puts the on the ball well and will improve when he learns to incorporate his lower half to drive the ball. On the mound, Westmoreland, throws a high 80s to low 90s fastball and a serviceable curve and threw a seven inning perfect game this season. Westmoreland has committed to Vanderbuilt and is reputed to be a tough sign, but the Red Sox have reportedly shown great interest in him.
