Lowell victorious in their first game of season
6/18 Cup of Coffee: Pawtucket downed Lehigh Valley 5-1 behind the strong start of Charlie Zink (8-2) who went 7 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits. He had 2 Ks. Hunter Jones threw 1.2 frames and did not allow a run on 1 hit and 2 BB. He had 3 Ks. Jose Vaquedano retired the final hitter of the night. Jed Lowrie went 2 for 4 with a run and a RBI. Keith Ginter and Bryan Pritz each went 2 for 4 with a RBI.
The Portland / New Britain game was postponed.
High Desert edged Lancaster 9-8. Chris Jones went 3.2 innings giving up 8 runs on 9 hits and a BB. Richie Lentz threw 2.1 frames and did not allow a baserunner. He had 2 Ks. Jason Blackey went 1.2 innings and took the loss allowing 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. TJ Large went 1.1 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit. He had 2 Ks.
In the SAL League All Star game the North hammered the South 13-4. Mike Jones , one of several Drive in the game, went 1 for 3.
Lowell took their opening game of the season by defeating Tri-City 4-2. Brock Huntzinger (1-0) threw 5 scoreless innings giving up 3 hits. He had 7 Ks. Hunter Strickland went 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit. He had 3 Ks. Seth Garrison pitched the final inning and did not allow a run on 1 hit. He had 2 Ks. Carlos Fernandez-Oliva went 3 for 4 and scored a run.
In the DSL, the Red Sox edged the Giants 3-2. Danny Dilon went 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. He had 5 Ks.
Player of the Night: Brock Huntzinger who threw 5 scoreless innings to lead the Spinners to the Opening Day win. He had 7 Ks.
