Pawtucket takes both games of doubleheader
5/11 Cup of Coffee: On Saturday, Pawtucket took both ends of a doubleheader from Norfolk by identical 4-2 scores. Bartolo Colon started the first game and went 3 innings. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits. He had 2 Ks. Jon Switzer threw 2.1 frames and gave up 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Chris Smith pitched the final 1.2 innings and did not allow a run on 3 hits. He had 1 K. George Kottaras went 1 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI. In the second game, Michael Tejera went 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 BB. He had 5 Ks. Edgar Martinez picked up the win throwing a scoreless, hitless inning. He allowed 1 BB. Chris Carter went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Jon Van Every went 2 for 2.
Portland defeated Bowie 7-5. Justin Masterson went 4.2 frames allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and 4 BB. Chad Rhoades pitched 2.1 scoreless frames giving up 2 hits. He had 3 Ks. Hunter Jones went 2 innings and did not allow a run on 1 hit. He had 2 Ks. Jeff Corsaletti went 3 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI. Andrew Pinckney went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Mickey Hall went 2 for 3 and scored 3 times.
Inland Empire clobbered Lancaster 25-1. James Russ started and lasted 1 inning. He allowed 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 BB. Josh Papelbon threw the second inning and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits. Brian Steinocher pitched 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 BB. He had 1 K. Blake Maxwell went 2.1 frames and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and a BB. At this point in the game the call went out to non-pitchers to come to the aid of the team. Luis Segovia went 1 inning allowing 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 BB. Daniel Nava went the fina 0.2 of an inning and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 BB. Chih-Hsien Chiang went 1 for 4 with a home run.
Rome defeated Greenville 6-1. Jose Alvarez went 5 innings allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Jordan Craft gave up 1 run on a hit and a BB in 2 innings of work. He had 2 Ks. Daniel Bard threw 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit. He had 5 Ks. Yamaico Navarro went 3 for 4 with a RBI.
