Farkes's 3 homers and 6 RBI lead Jethawks to win


8/12 Cup of Coffee: Yesterday's "Futures at Fenway" event was a huge success not only at the gate with over 30,000 fans in attendence but also on the field as both teams staged walk off wins. In the first game, Lowell edged Hudson Valley 2-1 scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth for the victory. Jose Capellan went 6 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits. He had 3 Ks. Adam Mills (3-1) threw 3 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits. He had 3 Ks. Jorge Jimenez went 3 for 5 with a run scored and the game winning RBI. Kade Keowen went 2 for 4.



In the second game at Fenway, Portland scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th helped in part by 5 BB to defeat Harrisburg 12-11. Mike Bowden went 4 innings allowing 8 runs on 7 hits and 2 BB. He had 6 Ks. Kyle Jackson threw 2 scoreless frames allowing 1 hit while fanning 4. Jose Vaquedano went 2 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Mike James (1-3) went 1 inning and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Bubba Bell went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Andrew Pinckney went 2 for 5 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Iggy Suarez went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.

Pawtucket edged Syracuse 6-5. Charlie Zink (2-1) went 6 innings allowing 4runs on 6 hits and 4 BB. He had 3 Ks. Abe Alvarez threw 1 scoreless inning allowing 1 BB while fanning 1. Bryan Corey went 1/3 of an inning allowing 1 run on 2 hits. He had 1 K. Javier Lopez went 1 inning and allowed 1 hit. He had 1 K. Travis Hughes threw 2/3 of an inning. He did not allow a run. He gave up 1 hit and struck out 1. Jacoby Ellsbury went 2 for 5. Jed Lowrie went 2 for 5 and scored a run.

Lancaster bombed High Desert 15-3. Travis Beazley (5-1) went 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 BB. He had 3 Ks. Cody McAllister threw 4 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Ryan Khoury went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Jon Still went 2 for 3 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 5 RBI. Zak Farkes went 4 for 5 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI.

Delmarva pounded Greenville 10-1. Daniel Bard (3-3) went 2 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 4 hits and 5 BB. Brantley New threw 2 2/3 frames giving up 5 runs on 6 hits. He had 4 Ks. Richie Lentz threw 3 scoreless innings. He allowed 4 hits and 3 BB. He had 4 Ks. Josh Papelbon went 2/3 of an inning. He did not allow a run or a hit. He had 1 K. Matt Sheely went 2 for 4. Lars Anderson went 2 for 2 with a home run.

In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox split a doubleheader with the Twins. They took the first game 5-2. Ryan Colvin (2-2) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. He did not walk a batter while fanning 2. Dan Buller went 1 scoreless inning allowing 1 hit. He had 1 K. Mitch Dening went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Chih-Hsiang Huang went 2 for 2. The Twins took the second contest 5-1. Arbert Jimenez (1-1) took the loss going 2 1/3 innings. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits. Argenis Paulino went 2 1/3 frames. He did not allow a run on 1 hit and a BB. Victor Galue went 2 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits. He had 3 Ks. Victor Serrano went 2 for 3. Ricardo Burgos went 2 for 3 and scored a run.

The Dominican League Red Sox were postponed for the second consecutive day.
