Red Sox select Will Middlebrooks with 5th round pick
The Boston Red Sox in the 5th round have selected 3B/RHP Will Middlebrooks. At 6'4" 200, Middlebrooks is an excellent athlete as both a hitter and a pitcher. He has a low to mid 90's fastball along with an above average curve and an average change up. He has good mound presence as he attacks hitters well but needs work on his command. He has a lot of potential as a pitcher but may be best served being an everyday player because of his plus power potential. He has a commitment to Texas A&M, but should he sign he will begin 2007 in the GCL.
