Portland RHP Clay Buchholz continued his dominance in May, justifying his ascension to the top of the SoxProspects.com rankings, going 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA over 36 IP (six ER), striking out 51 while issuing 7 walks and holding opposing batters to an .183 BAA (23 hits), all more than good enough to be named SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Month for May. He began to rise to national prominence, earning repeated mentions as having emerged as one of the top pitching prospects in the minors, and began to be mentioned in some circles as being close to major league ready. Buchholz made six starts in May, and did not allow more than two runs in any of them, and most notably, outmatched Roger Clemens in a May 23 start against Trenton (NYY) on a national stage. For the season, Buchholz is 2-2 with a 1.70 ERA in 58.1 IP over 10 starts with 80 strikeouts and 13 walks.
