Greenville stages huge comeback win


5/1 Cup of Coffee: On Monday, Pawtucket lost 12-4 to Buffalo. Devern Hansack (1-3) went 6 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 BB. He had 8 Ks. Edgar Martinez went 1 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 BB. He had 3 Ks. Craig Hansen gave up 4 runs on 3 hits and 2 BB in 2/3 of an inning. Bryan Corey retired the only batter he faced. David Murphy went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. He is now hitting .278. Brandon Moss went 2 for 4 with a RBI and is now hitting .316.

Portland was not scheduled to play yesterday.

Bakersfield defeated Lancaster 8-6. Mike Rozier started and went 6 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 8 hits and 3 BB. He had 3 KS. Kevin Guyette allowed a run on 1 hit and 1 BB in 2 innings of work. He had 1 K. Chad Rhoades (2-1) blew the save and took the loss. He gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 1 BB in 1/3 of an inning. Jay Johnson went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Aaron Bates went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Christian Lara went 2 for 4 and scored a run.

Greenville who at one point in the game trailed 7-0 came from behind to defeat Asheville 8-7. Jordan Craft started but went only 2/3 of an inning. He gave up 4 runs on 3 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Adam Blackley went 2 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 BB. He had 2 Ks. Miguel Socolovich threw 3 scoreless innings. He allowed 1 BB while striking out 5. Eric Beattie went 1/3 of an inning giving up 1 BB but no runs. TJ Large went a scoreless 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit. Josh Papelbon (1-0) pitched 2 perfect innings fanning 3. Kris Negron went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Manny Arambarris went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Jason Place and Mickey Hall each went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Pedro Vasquez went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Player of the Night: Josh Papelbon who threw 2 perfect innings of relief to earn his first win of the season.
