Ellsbury promoted, Bard to DL

Just days after talk began that a move was imminent, The Boston Red Sox promoted SoxProspects.com # 1 prospect Jacoby Ellsbury to AAA Pawtucket on Friday. In 17 games at Portland (AA), Ellsbury, a 23-year-old left handed batter, hit .452/.518/.644 (33/73) with 10 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 K, stealing 8 bases (1 CS). In his debut game with the Paw Sox he went 1/4 (2 BB, 2 R), his combined average leads the minors at .442.... Lancaster RHP and Red Sox first round selection in the 2006 draft Daniel Bard was placed on the disabled list. “It’s not anything serious–it’s a slight strain,” Red Sox farm director Mike Hazen was quoted as saying in Baseball America. “We’re just shutting him down for 7-to-10 days and it won’t be long before we get him back on the mound.” Bard had struggled in high-A, allowing 15 runs on 21 hits in 13.1 IP and issuing 22 walks.
