Buchholz throws 7 scoreless innings


5/2 Cup of Coffee: Tuesday saw a full slate of games starting at AAA where Indianapolis defeated Pawtucket 5-3. Abe Alvarez (1-3) started and went 5 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 8 hits and 3 BB. He had 2 Ks. Mike Burns pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits. He fanned 4. Craig Breslow threw 1 perfect inning. Manny Delcarmen pitched the final inning. He did not allow a run. He gave up 1 hit and had 1 K. David Murphy raised his BA to .303 going 3 for 4 scoring 1 run. Jeff Bailey went 2 for 5. Brandon Moss went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI.

Portland defeated Bowie 4-1. Clay Buchholz retired the first 18 batters he faced while pitching 7 shutout innings. He gave up just 1 hit and did not allow a BB. He struck out 9. Kyle Jackson (2-0) went the final 2 innings. He blew the save but got credit for the win. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Cory Keylor went 2 for 3 with a home run 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Jed Lowrie went 1 for 3 with a RBI. Jeff Natale went 1 for 3 and scored a run.

Lancaster blanked Rancho Cucamonga 2-0 in 13 innings. Mike Bowden started and threw 6 scoreless innings. He gave up 5 hits and had 9 Ks. Hunter Jones threw 2 scoreless innings. He gave up 1 BB and had 3 Ks. Blake Maxwell (3-1) went 4 scoreless innings to pick up the win. He allowed 2 hits and had 2 Ks. Ismael Casillas threw 1 scoreless inning. He gave up 1 BB and had 1 K. Ryan Khoury went 3 for 6 and scored a run. Zach Daeges went 2 for 6.

Asheville defeated Greenville 8-1. Travis Beazley started and took the loss. He gave up 4 runs on 8 hits. He did not allow a BB and had 7 Ks. Kyle Fernandes pitched the final 4 innings. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Manny Arambarris went 3 for 4. Mickey Hall went 1 for 3 and scored a run.

Player of the Night: Clay Buchholz who retired the first 18 hitters he faced before giving up a lone hit in the 7th. He had 9 Ks as well.
