8/18 Cup of Coffee


Last night, Pawtucket edged Scranton/WB 3-2. Marc Deschenes started and went 6 innings. He did not allow a run on 3 hits and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Jermaine Van Buren went 1 2/3 innings. He did not allow a run or a hit. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Brad Baker went 1 1/3 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. Trent Durrington went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Carlos Pena went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI. New Hampshire blanked Portland 2-0. Devern Hansack went 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. He did not allow a BB and struck out 4. Luis Jimenez and Brandon Moss were both 2 for 3. Frederick defeated Wilmington 10-6. Gary Galvez started and went 5 innings. He gave up 7 runs on 12 hits. He did not give up a BB and had 3 Ks. Ryan Schroyer went 2 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. He had 4 Ks. Jeff Corsaletti went 2 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBI. Mark Wagner went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Jeff Natale went 2 for 5 and Andrew Pinckney went 2 for 4 with a RBI.

In the first game of a doubleheader, Charleston edged Greenville 2-1 in 14 innings. Mike Rozier started and went 7 innings giving up no runs on just 2 hits. He did not allow a BB and had 5 Ks. Ismael Casillas went 4 innings. He did not allow a run while giving up 2 hits and a BB. He had 4 Ks. Chad Rhoades pitched the final 3 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Aaron Bates went 2 for 6 and Luis Soto went 2 for 6 with a home run. In the second game, Greenville came back to shut out Charleston 2-0. Tim Cox came out of the pen for a rare start and went scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit. He did not give up a BB and had 2 Ks. Hunter Jones pitched a perfect inning of relief. Tony Granadillo went 2 for 3 and scored a run. Aaron Bates went 2 for 3. Lowell defeated Jamestown 9-4. Travis Beazley went 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and a BB. He had 7 Ks. Dustin Richardson went 2 2/3 innings and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 BB. He had 3 Ks. T.J. Large went 2 1/3 perfect innings. He had 2 Ks. Mike Chambers went 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI. Paul Smyth went 3 for 5 with a home run. Luis Exposito went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Jorge Jimenez went 3 for 4 and scored twice. In the GCL, the Red Sox defeated the Reds 3-1 in a game that was called after 7 innings because of rain. Felix Doubront went 3 2/3 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Argenis Paulino went 3 innings. He did not allow a run while giving up 5 hits. He had 1 K. Luis Sumoza went 1 for 2 and had 2 RBI. Matt Sheely went 2 for 3.

Player of The Night: Tim Cox who made a rare start and threw 5 innings of scoreless, 1 hit baseball to lead Greenville to victory and a split of their doubleheader.
