In the Eastern League playoffs last night, Portland defeated Trenton 5-2 to take a 2-0 lead in their best of five series. Anibal Sanchez started for the Sea Dogs and was leading 2-0 going into the fourth inning when he gave up a single to the leadoff hitter and a home run to the next Thunder hitter. He went 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with 4 Ks. He was replaced by Denny Tomori who went 2 2/3 innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit with 2 Ks. Randy Beam got the win throwing 3 1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless ball. He struck out 2. Jimmy Mann got the save pitching a perfect ninth. Scott Youngbauer led the attack going 2 for 3 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Chris Durbin went 2 for 3 with a run scored. David Murphy went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Chad Spann went 1 for 3 with another home run and 2 RBI. His two run homer broke a 2-2 tie. Hanley Ramirez went 1 for 4. Game three is tonight and the Sea Dogs could wrap up a berth in the finals with a win. Lowell went down 6-2 to Oneonta in their final game of the year. Mario Pena started the game and took the loss going 3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. Kyle Fernandes went 2 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. He had 3 Ks. Gene Flores , threw 2 perfect innings for the Spinners. Yader Peralta pitched a perfect ninth striking out 2. Jacoby Ellsbury went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Dustin Kelly went 1 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Jay Johnson went 1 for 4 with a RBI.
